This program is funded in part by the Quinebaug-Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor, the Lebanon Elementary  School PTA and the LES Student Activity Fund.   The production of this CD is the culmination of a month long residency program with resident artist, Sally Rogers, and the LES fourth grades. The students  were also visited by Stacia  Kapalnson, executive director of the Lebanon Historical Society Museum. Ms. Kaplanson visited the classrooms, bringing primary documents such as photographs, handcrafted items, and artifacts, which the students were allowed to look at and to handle.

Rogers spent a total of ten days in the classrooms, teaching  the students about the primary sources used by historians to interpret the past. Each class then chose a topic of historice relevance to Lebanon to interpret through song.   Using cooperative learning, groub brain storming and discussion, the students wrote and edited the lyrics to the songs you are about to hear.  Ms. Rogers wrote the melodies and six song of her own during the residency.

Programs such as this can only be accomplished with community supprot.  We thank all the parent for  encouraging their students in the pursuit of history, whether at the town hall, in a newspaper, or at a museum.  Financial support is also necessary.  LES received a grant from the Quinebaug-Shetucket Heritage Corridor for the residency and Ms. Rogers’ songwriting.   Additional support was received from the LES-PTA, for which we are very grateful. And of course, by purchasing this CD, you have likewise 0iven youi support for which we thank you. Proceeds from the sale of this recording will go back into the LES student  activity fund and will be used for future such projects.
